In late 2012 I was commissioned by Group One Partners, Inc. to photograph the Congress Street Bridge for a mural that would be featured in the newly completed, 120 guest room, Residence Inn Marriott Boston Downtown/Seaport.
The Congress Street Bridge spans Boston's famed Fort Point Channel. It was built in 1930 and refurbished in 2008. It is a pony truss Strauss trunnion bascule bridge with overhead counterweight. The bridge no longer operates for boat traffic and the weight portion of the counterweight has been removed, although the framework remains.
The final image selected for the mural was a high dynamic range (HDR) photograph. A 70% screen was applied to the image before it was made into vinyl wall covering. Each guest room is slightly different making the mural unique in each case.
